Petroleum & Chemical Storage & Distribution

SPEC has been providing engineering and project management services for the petroleum and chemical storage and distribution sector since our inception. Many of SPEC’s staff have served as Owner’s Engineer in the petrochemical industry, having worked on a variety of petroleum and chemical storage and distribution projects.

SPEC has world-class experience in the design, construction, operation, inspection, and maintenance of petroleum and chemical distribution facilities. SPEC personnel have developed over six industry standards, practices, or publications associated with petroleum bulk storage. SPEC staff have served as technical writers, reviewers, and committee staff on a number of petroleum industry standards. SPEC has an unchallenged expertise in this area having completed hundreds of projects from small facility maintenance projects to new distribution facilities. SPEC works internationally on petroleum and chemical distribution facilities performing projects throughout the US and the world.

SPEC’s services in this area are full service and are tailored to the client’s requirements. Our services can include project scope definition, FEED, EPC, procurement support, permitting (local and environmental), regulatory compliance, etc.

SPEC provides cutting edge design and drafting services using the latest technology. Depending upon the client and project needs, SPEC can provide 3D laser scanning of existing facilities and development of 3D models of existing system with new process components. With our 3D CAD software, we can more easily develop isometric drawings with bills of material for construction, perform clash checking, complete pipe stress analysis of existing and proposed systems and visualize projects, including operation and ergonomic walk through models.

SPEC has several API certified inspectors in the following areas: API 653 Tanks, API S70 Piping, and API 510 Pressure Vessels. Our staff also includes individuals with various ASNT certifications and CWI.

With a push for renewable fuels driving the development of new facilities and alteration to existing distribution systems, our petroleum storage and distribution experience is valuable in another allied industry served by SPEC – renewable and alternative energy.
